Senator Obama’s grandmother dies before the election

Posted in news, USA at 9:28 pm by Salah

Obama’s grandmother dies one day before the election. Unfortunate loss to Obama since his grandmother is a huge influence on his life and the biggest supporter for him.

I wonder how is this going to affect (or not) the elections.

10 items or less

Posted in personal, review, TV, USA at 11:42 am by Salah

I have been watching some episodes of “10 items or less” season two, and I think the show is ok. The reason I am saying the show is ok is because the first time I watched an episode for the show, I hated it a lot. I just couldn’t find the episode funny, but I thought that I might find it so when I watch more episodes. It happened to me a lot that I watch one episode of some show and I hate it, but then I start liking it when I keep watching the episodes. I think that what makes a show good is when you get to know the characters well enough.

That’s why now I am finding “10 items or less” a little bit more amusing than before. It still didn’t get me to the point where I want to keep up with every single episode.

So far the characters that I understood are:

Leslie, who is the manager and the owner of the grocery store where most of the show takes place.

I think that’s all what I got so far.

Starbucks coffee shelf at walmart

I took this picture a while ago to post it, but I forgot!

This is a stand that is comparatively new for the starbucks canned and bottled drinks. I love the doubleshot espresso (the dark box on the top) and I usually buy the 4 pack from walmart. They used to store it in an ugly place next to the water shelves that you gives you the feeling you are in a warehouse. Now, however, they have this nice and neat looking square that holds the starbucks’ drinks near the cash register. As you can see, it also has a small fridge in the middle for on-the-go single drinks. Starbucks’ products are more attractive now and I am more encouraged than ever to keep buying the doubleshot. They still keep some at the old shelf, but I think it’s just for more space.

Good job Starbucks; now if you can do that to the gas station next to my place it would be even better.

It’s really good to see walmart being redecorated and filled with brand-made shelves like Starbucks’ and Hallmark’s. This way we won’t stick with walmart just for the convenience, but we can also tolerate the short grocery experience.

GTA IV special edition package

Posted in electronics, personal, services, USA, video games at 2:00 pm by Salah

I thought I mentioned this before, but apparently I didn’t.

I reserved a copy of the new beloved video game GTA IV from game stop. They told me that the game will be released around March, but it will actually be released on April 29th.

The special edition will include, in addition to the game, collector’s items. The items will al be included in a metal safety deposit box, and they are:

-GTA IV art book including never-before-seen production art work production from GTA IV.

-Selected soundtrack CD from GTA IV, featuring new material from top artists.

-An exclusive Rockstar keychain for the safety deposit box.

-Completing the collection is a limited edition Rockstar duffel bag.

I really can’t wait!

Gamestop quick call

Posted in personal, services, USA, video games at 2:29 pm by Salah

I called gamestop today to get a quote how much would they buy WARHAWK-used for, and here is how the call went:

gamestop employee: “Hi this gamestop we buy and sell used games and DVDs this is(…) can I help you?”

Me: “yea, I wanted to know how much would you guys buy WARHAWK with the speaker for?”

gamestop employee: “Could you call later, I am a little busy here.”

Me: “????????????, ok?” (hanged up)

Now that is one of the funniest calls I have ever made in my life.

Blu-ray on my screen

Posted in electronics, kuwait, personal, review, services, TV, USA, video games at 9:43 am by Salah

Picture taken from http://www.gearcritech.com

At last I rented a Blu-ray movie, watched it, and experienced the whole thing. The whole experience was beautiful, amazing, and worth every penny for the TV, PS3, and home theater.

I went to Blockbuster to look for a Blu-ray movie that is filled with graphics and cool stuff so that I can get all the juice out of the system and screen. At first I had Fantastic 4 in my mind because I knew that it was available in the store. Nevertheless, there was Spider-man 3! I knew that Spider-man was out on DVD but I also knew that it’s going to be out of stock for a while. It was the only one DVD available in store. I picked it up and I also got Pearl Harbor.

I have to say that Spider-man is worth buying if you want to buy a Blu-ray movie. The fights between spider-man and the other bad guys was breath taking.

What I am getting at is that the Blu-ray is one hell of a picture and experience. If you you want to invest your money in home entertainment, then aim for Blu-ray. The only problem is that in Kuwait Blu-ray is kind of expensive, but prices will drop soon.

How much is a PS3 now in Kuwait anyway?

The battle between Netflix and Blockbuster

Posted in movies, review, services, USA at 2:43 pm by Salah

One of the readers asked me why I don’t get Netflix instead of Blockbuster. And I have always wanted to write something about that matter, and this is the perfect time.

I used to have Netflix for a year approximately. It was very good deal when first was introduced to the online renting system. I enjoyed it for a while until I got bored of movies, and canceled the account. However, I went to Blockbuster once and they told me that they had the same online service of Netflix and the same prices but better. Read the rest of this entry »
